Derry Presbyterian Church Plans New Manse
The Derry Presbyterian Church, celebrating its 200th anniversary, begins excavating a 28 by 52 foot manse to be built east of the church with a first floor in stone and upper stories in creosoted shingles. Slated for completion by January 1, 1925, the $10,000 project will house a reception hall, living and dining rooms, a study, kitchen, four bedrooms and bath on the second floor, and is contracted to Hershey Lumber Co. Building committee includes Ivan L. Mease as chair and G Chance Phillips, E B Cassady, A Bowman Snavely, and John J Cope.

The Hershey Men's Dee club plans a two week camping expedition at Mt Gretna on Lake Borie using 6x16 tents and steel cots. Mother Strine leads the cooking with three meals daily. leaders will be chosen from among the boys. Daily program includes drill, games, swimming, fishing, hiking, canoeing, baseball, volley ball, quoits, life saving, camp fires and nightly stories. Rise at 6 am and lights out at 9:30 pm. Cost is $2.50 per week or $5 for adults. several members have signed up and others can join via J. F. Snavely or Alex Magrini at the Men’s Club.

County Agent Burtner led a week long oat inspection across Dauphin County farms focusing on an early maturing Japanese oats variety. About 250 bushels were imported last year with yields eight bushels per acre higher than other varieties, though late maturing oats can fail in dry spells. The variety is grown on multiple farms under the Dauphin County Agricultural Extension Association, including Cassel, Shenk, Ep, Sheetz, Moyer, Hershey, Stuyblonch, Arnold, Chafee, Stahl, and others in Te, Elizabethtown, Harrisburg, and Hummelstown areas.
