Lancaster County is famed as a tobacco area and A Bowman Snavely proposes to prove tobacco can grow in Dauphin County. He planted six stalks borrowed from Lancaster acres in Hershey and tends them daily. He plans to cure them in a garage upper story with Mr William F R Murrie to share the crop. If successful, his garden could become a tobacco plantation and inspire others in the East End Back to Nature Association to try tobacco farming.

Palmyra takes two games from Hershey in July series
Hershey loses two games to Palmyra on the Fourth with scores 4 to 1 in the morning and 10 to 8 in the afternoon. The morning defeat came as Hershey could not hit Plowman and the afternoon loss due to supposed poor management. Hershey held a 7 to 1 lead in the fifth, but Palmyra rallied. Hershey faces Carlisle on July 12 and Palmyra again July 10, with no home game this Saturday at Williamstown.

In spring, 38 Pennsylvania coal companies planted 1 137 176 trees spanning 1200 acres, aiming for 36 million board feet as those trees mature.
