The Hershey Industrial School moved into a new dormitory and activated a central kitchen and dining room serving 91 boys and staff. Meals are prepared centrally and distributed in fireless cookers. reading and game rooms provide books and magazines. dorm rooms will later get individual lockers to foster personal space.
A Wednesday morning sleighing party from Hummelstown left two students dead and many injured near Hershey. Alberta Grove, the chaperon, died almost instantly. she was known in Hershey for years, formerly with the Hershey Chocolate Company.
The city endures a 14 inch snowfall with trolley workers bearing the brunt of the disruption. Sleep-starved drivers dream of snowbound cars and cold hands while Hershey lines stay largely open given overall conditions.
The store switches to CASH AND CARRY in the grocery dept citing rising costs, staff shortages, and delivery expenses. Under government regulated operations, groceries will be sold at lower CASH AND CARRY prices with a daily comparative price list.

The Hershey Department Store will switch to a cash and carry pricing model with delivery service except for groceries. Groceries delivery will cost up to five cents locally and ten cents to surrounding towns, with free delivery in other departments. Customers are urged to invest savings in War Savings or Thrift Stamps to support the war effort.
A 1918 letter from R B Stoner in Meade Maryland praises the press revival, discusses added postage, and notes Hershey activities and railroad schedule changes. It references Hershey Industrial figureheads, "Sunnybrook Farm" and local theater showings, plus Farm Bureau officer elections with A B Shenk, Snavely, and McCormick among the names.
