Billy Kicker writes a rambling tale from Kickersville in 1910 describing a visit for cheap medicine and a pest infestation. He recounts odd observations in a kitchen including a dead jackal, a hen, kittens, a dog and a ghostly scene while joking about health and finances and urging readers to help the widow.
The passage contrasts giving by advice and kind words with practical aid for the hungry. It likens exhortation to a plate of doughnuts for a pilgrim downed by fate, urging action over admonition when need is real.
Attorney Charles V. Henry representing A. G. Stauffer O. A. Stauffer and I. L. Beckley will on March 7 apply for a charter for the Annville Palmyra Gas and Fuel Company. The firm plans to manufacture gas from coal and build a plant between Palmyra and Annville to pipe gas to both towns for light heat and power at a cost of 100000 to 150000 dollars.
A playful verse recounts the freshmen overcoming sophomores in 1894 with pranks and chaotic deeds. The poem blends schoolyard humor with notes of gender and festive mischief, ending with a cheeky image of all involved as Christmas toys.
In Camelton, Adam Knocker and local nockers discuss rumors of a Hershey show targeting them. He consults Squire Arnold and Fry and Gish then calls a barber shop and Rising Sun Hotel meeting to decide on action.
A letter alleges that the show will fail without the writer, ApAm Knocker, in control. It claims many others do not knock correctly and urges others to be informed and to let the writer act. A postscript complains about Billy Kicker and his failure to kick correctly and to seek lessons.
The Hershey Y M C A opened last Thursday in poor weather with about 150 attendees. Rev. Benj Segelken spoke, Earnest of Hummelstown was praised, the Hershey band performed gratis, and Mrs. C V Glynn accompanied the singing as the gym displays were viewed. The reception committee led by Mr. Cassady oversaw the event.
