The Olivets defeated the Palmyra Big Five 28 to 13 on Christmas afternoon at Palmyra. Scoring included Strine 4 and Zimmerman 9 with Miller 2 Bashore 1 Clark 2 Stover and Lelott contributing for Olivets while Fouls credited to Miller Bashore Immerman. Referees were Kiinefelter Imers Burtner and Stover.
A Hershey employee, Miss Bertha Snyder, married George Reinhart on July 3 1920 at the Little Church Around the Corner New York City. The ceremony surprised many friends and the bride returns to work soon awaiting a warm reception.
Miss Martha Peiffer married Roy Schreffler of Blain on December 24 at the Lutheran parsonage Penbrook. A wedding feast followed December 26 at the bride’s parents home in Union Deposit with many guests and a future residence there.
The Hummelstown Methodist Episcopal Church plans a two week revival beginning January 2 at 10 30 AM with Rev John Wesley Grande assisted by two friends. Evening services at 730 PM feature messages on foundations and revival topics led by Grande and guest speakers.
Christmas week in Hershey featured the Hershey Men's Chorus singing carols Tuesday and Friday evenings, inspiring peace and goodwill. Thanks go to Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Clark and family for leading the town's Christmas carol outreach, with church services and community celebrations enriching the season.
The Christmas Exercises at Derry Presbyterian Church on December 23 drew a large audience. The Cantata A Bonafide Santa was well rendered by the adult school youths. Santa Claus presented the pastor and family with a gold purse. a Foreign Missions offering was also received, making the evening joyful and profitable.
In Hummelstown on Christmas Day Miss Esther M. Walters daughter of Mr and Mrs George Walters became the bride of Monroe W. Hughes at the groom s mother Mrs Mary Snyder s home on Granada Ave Rev R Ro Butterwick officiated. The couple will reside with Mrs Snyder and have employment ties in Hershey.
Edward Mauffair and Lewis Kilheffer returned Friday December 24 from Central Hershey Cuba where they had worked for Hershey Interests since July. The event featured an elaborate Christmas program with carols recitations dialogues and sketches. Superintendent George Copenhaver spoke on early preparation for the future and praised the boys musical talent and school progress.
Hershey Post 386 of the American Legion held its first meeting in new quarters. Members celebrated the Permanent Home Committee’s work and discussed reestablishing a basketball team under the new Post Commander and athletic director. A Harrisburg New Year’s Day Bonus Parade entry was planned with all ex service members urged to participate.
A December 26 gathering at the Gilman home celebrated Cecil Gilman, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Gilman, with a dinner. Cecil, visiting from Philadelphia, has ties to the Post Office and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Guests included John Wallace and others from Annville Philadelphia West Fairview Hershey Lancaster and the Gilman family.
The new winter dance floor opened Wednesday December 22 despite bad weather. Mannix Dance Orchestra of Harrisburg performed, pleasing patrons. The floor is spacious and well lit with an orchestra platform at center. The next dance is set for January 6 with visits planned every other Thursday.
Miss Camille Waidlich and John W Brenberger wed on Christmas morning at the First United Brethren Church with Rev R R Butterwick officiating. After the ceremony they left for a wedding trip to Mercersburg. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs W A Waidlich of Mercersburg, has worked in Hershey. The groom is a draftsman in Hershey and they will live at 124 Cocoa Ave. Friends extend congratulations.
The Elaines defeated the Governor's Troop of Harrisburg 40 to 24 on Tuesday night. Scorers include EE Zimmerman 7 and Smith 7 with Bryant 3 and Weidman 2 among others. Fouls and lineup details are listed with refs and scorer Strine.
Central Theatre schedules a holiday run with Ramona based on Helen Hunt Jackson on Fri Dec 31 and Sat Jan 1. Bryant Washburn stars in A Full House on Mon Jan 3. Bride 13 and Geraldine Farrar in The Woman and the Puppet play midweek Jan 5.
