A joint meeting of Hummelstown and Hershey American Legion posts in Hummelstown on Aug 4 elected Herbert Schaffner as chairman and Ivan Mease as secretary. Committees on Finance and Credentials, Arrangements, Reception, and Publicity were named with specific members and will begin work immediately for a large August 28 event at Hershey Park.

Ground will be broken for St Joan of Arc church on Aug 15
Ground will be broken on Sunday August 15 for a new Roman Catholic Church dedicated to St Joan of Arc. The rite with Bishop Phillip R. McDevitt to commence at 11 am will include a solemn high mass on a platform on the site West Chocolate Avenue. Thousands are expected from Harrisburg Lebanon Lancaster York Carlisle and Chambersburg.

Community Picnic Friday at Carsonia Park With Contests
The August picnic at Carsonia Park Reading features a basket collection plan with locations and a 7:00 deadline. A full sports program includes races and tug of war plus a peanut scramble with prizes. Tickets go on sale Thursday evening at the P and R station.
