A correction clarifies the Hershey Trust Company stock par value is $50.00 per share, not $100.00 as reported. The note cites A sale price of $200.50 per share implying a market value four times par and a 400 percent gain in six years.
The Press prepared population figures show 934 residents in Hershey proper. The Hershey name appears 30 times, with 40 residents named Hershey in Derry Church. The Hershey Industrial School accounts for 26 people, and Hershey related farms total 217 across Industrial School, Demonstration farms, and nearby lands.
The directory lists population figures for Hershey Derry Church Swatara Station Hockersville Sand Beach Union Deposit Campbelltown and other towns. It notes 2341 total names with Miller appearing 48 times, the most of any surname, and Campbelltown as the largest town after Hershey.
Last week two bear cubs under a year old arrived at Hershey Park from St Paul Minnesota and were placed in the pit that had been empty since the death of Bob. They were named Bob and Maggie and attract daily attention as they play in their den. A sign with their names was added to the pit wall.
Hershey plans a public library using a traveling library from Harrisburg. The initial set will have fifty volumes kept for six months, then replaced. Books arrive soon from the State librarian and will be housed at the Y M C A under a joint Y M C A and Y W C A committee. Open Wednesdays six to eight and Saturdays two to five. A book social will invite attendees to donate books to form a permanent town library.
A gymnasium girls group at the Y M C A rooms hosted a Monday evening social with a lively program where each participant contributed. The grand drill surprised attendees as sedate guests laughed at stunts. Miss Elder supervised the new class expressing thanks to Mr M S Hershey for generosity.
Mr M S Hershey and Mrs Hershey return to America after wintering in Cimiez Nice France. They arrived in New York on the steamer America and reached Hershey Sunday afternoon.
Plans filed Wednesday for a two story stone and brick building 70 by 90 feet to serve as the new home of the Hershey Trust Company on the corner of Cocoa and Chocolate avenues. The second floor will house offices and construction will begin promptly.
All pupils aiming to enter Hershey High School next fall must attend an examination at the High School building on Thursday and Friday April 25 and 26. Open to any pupil who has completed the prescribed course of study. exams cover reading orthography grammar arithmetic political geography mental arithmetic history and physiology. Successful candidates will receive diplomas.
A Hershey Y W C A hosts a Sunday afternoon gathering at three o clock. The event features an address by Mrs Thomas M Jones and invites all ladies to attend.
