Jeannie Carson will star as Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music at Hershey Community Theatre September 17 to 22 with eight performances 8:15 p.m. and matinees 2:15 p.m. John Van Dreelen co stars as Baron von Trapp. Tickets are on sale at the box office.

Derry Township Welfare Campaign Kickoff For 1962 Drive
The 1962 united campaign for welfare funds opens September 24 in Derry Township, led by the Welfare Board with Tri-County United Fund partners and the Lebanon County Community Chest receiving substantial benefit. In-plant drives begin September 24 for Hershey Chocolate Corp, Hershey Estates, Milton Hershey School, plus H B Reese Candy Co and others. A community canvass starts October 1 targeting residents not yet giving, with door to door asks avoiding homes with United Fund stickers. Funds support guidance, training, health, housing, services for veterans, children, the aged, and disaster relief.

The American Rose Society annual fall convention opens today in Hershey with Harry L. Erdman as assistant general chairman. West Shore Rose Club hosts with Hershey Estates. exhibits in Hershey Community Building open 2 to 7 p.m. Sept 14 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept 15. tours of Hershey facilities are planned including Walk and Talk with John Meszaros and visits to Milton Hershey School and chocolate plant.
