Hershey News (Newspaper) - October 15, 1959, Hershey, PennsylvaniaHershey news vol. 7hershey, Pennsylvania october 15, 1959 no. 42 announce open House event for new school facilities residents of the Hershey Community Are invited to attend an open House program to inspect the new facilities for the Hershey High school and Hershey Junior College it was announced by the Derry township Board of school directors. The program will be held monday evening october 26, Between the Houi s of 7 30 and 9. The additional facilities for both the Junior College and the High school Are gifts of the m. S. Hershey foundation to the Community and will enable the schools to adequately meet the needs of the students. Junior College labs the Hershey Junior College facilities have been expanded to include the fifth floor of the Community building and on this floor have been located a biology Laboratory and a chemistry Laboratory. The biology Laboratory accommodates Twenty four students and provides extra work space storage and office space. The chemistry Laboratory will also accommodate Twenty four students and has facilities for general chemist in a qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. Storage and preparation rooms Are also provided. Iri previous years Quot the Junior College shared the science facilities at Hershey High school. The new facilities will enable scheduling to be done in the College laboratories throughout the Day As Well As allowing opportunities for students to do make up work and for the staff to do research. The physics Laboratory is now located in the room formerly occupied by the biology department on the second floor of the Junior College. In previous years Junior College physics classes had utilized the science Laboratory of the High schools vocational division. to the Junior College laboratories May use the elevator at the West end of the Community building. Members of the Junior College staff and student body will be on hand to Greet visitors. High school facilities the addition to the her Shey High school was during the past twelve months and is located directly above the Auto body shop and the bus garage. In the new unit Are seven rooms equipped with the latest facilities. The chorus room is semicircular in Structure and is and seating of students. It is built to accommodate 110 students at one time. Adjacent to the chorus room is a storage room for the uniforms used by various musical organizations of Hershey High school. The instrumental room is also tiered in Structure and is designed to accommodate an 80-piece band. An office is provided for the music department. Host for the meet was the Hershey Region Abaca whose director is George r. Norton jr., of Reading. Norton is also executive vice president of the Abaca. Meet activities chairman was William Boden ji�?T., Pottstown who is also a vice president and director of activities for tin Abaca. The Abaca National office is Loci Ted in the Hershey museum building and is managed by William Bomgardner. New science laboratories at Hershey Junior College include a lab a Small area of which is shown in photo above and a biology lab which is also shown in picture below. A third newly installed Laboratory at the Junior College not pictured is the physics lab now located in a room formerly occupied by the biology department of the College. The and biology labs were installed in rooms located on the fifth floor of the Community building after an extensive remodelling Progi am. The Public will have the Opportunity of visiting the new facilities on monday evening october 26, from 7 30 to 9 00 . When an open House will be held at the Junior College and also for the new modern facilities added to the Hershey High school building a fhe Derry township Board of Hool directors has invited All residents of the Hershey Community to inspect the excellent new additions to the school Plant.
