The Hershey News marks its third anniversary on October 1 and notes three years of pleasant journalistic duty. The staff thanks readers and officials for cooperation and support in chronicling local news and features as the paper enters its fourth year.
By July 25 1956 the largest veterans training program ended for most World War Two vets. Public Law 346 cost 14.5 billion dollars benefiting over 7.8 million veterans with ongoing Koream era programs. GI education peaked with two thirds of male college students veterans and many with families.
The Hershey Chocolate Corporation was commended for the best industrial safety record among more than 700 food sector companies by the National Safety Council. Highlights include 1,934,492 continuous man-hours without a disabling injury and 1,552,000 accident-free hours in 1955 for about 3,500 employees.
All Saints Episcopal Church lists multiple services from 7:30 a m to 9 30 a m and evenings including Holy Communion Choral Eucharist and sermons. Derry Presbyterian and Evangelical Lutheran Holy Trinity provide Sunday worship, morning prayers and special services. The Carabinieri Band of Rome appears at Hershey Sports Arena on Wednesday evening October 10. They will march in with The March of the Carabinieri and play national Anthems US and Italy. The program features Verdi Capriccio Italiano Tchaikovsky Bizet Carmen Fantini Serenade Pennacchio An American in Paris Ponchielli La Gioconda and La Ritirata.
Members of the Pennsylvania Dutch Days general committee and spouses will be feted at a dinner on Wednesday evening October 10 at 6 15 at the Hershey Country Club. John B Sollenberger Hershey Estates president will host and Carl S Swarr general chairman will preside. Reports on the eighth annual celebration held last August will be given at a business meeting after the dinner.
A community canvass will open October 22 with 14 team captains organizing drives across districts. Notable captains include Brent Hancock Donald Chubb John Shuey Siegfried DeAngelis Raymond Evans Allen Huber Howard Shellenhamer Robert Stover Robert Schock Richard Bacastow Louis Smith Jr W Royce Ward Harold Mohler and Melvin Garner.
