A large group of Brownies and Girl Scouts aged eight and up spent a week at Sweet Arrow day camp living like Indians. The program focused on Indian lore, handiwork, and nature study with 132 attendees, up 40 from last year. Continued on Page Two.
Retired Hershey Gardens worker John M. Jefferies of 119 West Derry Road leaves by plane with his wife for Billings Montana to visit son William and four grandchildren. They then plan a Denver visit to daughter Florence and son-in-law Dr Basil Nixon at Fitzsimmons General Hospital.
The Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association cited Hershey Chocolate Corporation drivers and maintenance staff for an outstanding safety record in 1956. The Trail Mobile Safety Award in the miscellaneous over the road 500000 1000000 miles category was presented in Pittsburgh on June 21, accepted by C. P. Hershey.Tank trucks from the milk Receiving Department were driven by Raymond C. Deaven, Lester Spangler, Victor Smith, Jerome Hostetter, Oliver Hetrick, Edwin Strohm, George Bomgardner, LaRoss Johnson, Joseph Rakosky, Charles Landis, Russell Hetrick, William Harper Jr., William Bashore, Wilbur Hass, Daniel Peric, Lewis Zeck and Victor Messner.
Derry Township residents will take part in Civil Defense Operation Alert 1957 a nationwide readiness exercise Friday June 12. Local Civil Defense with fire and police will conduct the drill during daylight hours with public warning sirens and traffic halts as instructed by Pennsylvania Director Richard Gerstell.
