Republicans sweep Comal County races with lone Democratic win

In Comal County elections, Republicans won most offices led by county judge and commissioner contests. The sole Democratic victory came in the district clerk race as Margaret Herbrich defeated Hazel Kuhn. turnout reached 13,147 voters, about 55.3 percent, described as very good by County Clerk Rosie Rosenburg.

Four constitutional propositions approved statewide by Texas voters

In Comal County four propositions passed, with Proposition One 5744 to 4126 opposing removal of comptroller from apportionment and transfer to state property tax board. Proposition Two 7474 to 2570 requires bill titles expressing subject. Proposition Three 6422 to 3440 allows mutual insurance company business by political subdivisions, superseding a 1926 ruling. Proposition Four 8531 to 2299 allows branch banking with legal limits.

Tight Senate Race in District 21 Between Zaffirini and Bock

Early leads shifted as ballots were tallied with Democrat Judith Zaffirini and Republican Bennie Bock in a razor edge race for the District 21 state senate seat. With 300 of 301 boxes counted, Zaffirini led 57,895 to 54,241, though campaign reports conflicted with radio broadcasts and results may take about a week to finalize.
