Port murder case faces delayed motions from two judges
207th District Judge Robert Pfeuffer said he would be stepping out of bounds to hear David Port's defense motion for a new murder trial. Judge I D McMaster also refused, saying the request was filed too late after Port was convicted in 1984. The case, moved from Harris County last year, centers on residency challenges to McMaster and the potential for an evidentiary hearing to determine if Port's verdict and sentence should be voided and Port released.

Texas appeals court backs ban on sexual devices
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals upholds a state ban on selling sexual devices, ruling the devices resemble obscene material more than contraceptives. In a 6-3 decision, the majority says the ban furthers social order and morality, while a dissent argues the ruling misreads the role of sexual aids in society. Judge Teague notes sexual devices aid in treating sexual problems. The case involved a Houston man convicted for intending to sell such devices, though possession remains legal.
