District 6 recall effort and council clash in New Braunfels

District 6 voters in March 2007 show 3,990 turnout in the May 2005 election where Valentine lost by 18.39 percent. A petition to recall Valentine drew 10.62 percent of registered District 6 voters via Keep NBNB, as Webb resigned from RAC on Nov. 30 over a dispute on an open alcohol ban. Webb began organizing recalls after Feb. 12 when the council banned open containers in parks and limited cooler sites on the Guadalupe and Comal rivers. Valentine failed on Feb. 26 to advance a charter recall ordinance and said the charter offers no way to defend against recall charges.

NBU Expects No Time Change Glitches

New Braunfels Utilities officials say clocks may fall behind on Sunday but residents will not lose services. Spokeswoman Gretchen Reuner notes the switch is a Microsoft issue and computers would not display the correct time automatically, though services remain unaffected. See GLITCHES, Page 7A.
