Zimbabwe police force Nkomo into hiding
Bulawayo troops and police sealed off suburbs in Bulawayo on Saturday in a large scale operation. Joshua Nkomo reportedly went into hiding as security forces conducted house to house searches. The city crowd guarded by loudspeakers and soldiers included warnings to stay indoors. At least five opposition officials were among those killed in the week prior, triggering funeral disruptions and accusations from Bishop Muzorewa that martial law is in effect. Police reported two gunmen detained, while Nkomo's ZAPU claimed he slipped from his home amid the crackdown.
