Costa Rican exchange students visit Smithson Valley High
Fourteen students and two teachers from Cartago Costa Rica are at Smithson Valley High this month under a School Journeys Abroad program. Since Jan 10 they have attended classes in Austin and San Antonio, visiting sites and sharing culture. They depart Jan 31. The exchange is funded by a Global Vision Award via SVHS teacher Cappy Felger Adams and runs through Council on International Educational Exchange. Costa Rican hosts note differences in technology class size and dress codes. Cartago lacks uniforms while SVIS averages 14 students per class. The Costa Rican group discusses English practice and contrasts in transportation and big American homes, while eagerly sharing their experiences.
