DETROIT AP state and federal investigators target an illegal fishing ring reportedly dumping chemically tainted Lake Michigan trout into retail markets in New York and Detroit. Officials say PCB and DDT contamination has driven a ban on sale of these trout for years and that up to 30 to 40 percent of lake trout sold locally may have originated from illegal catches.

Dutch commandos with jets and armored cars stormed a train and a school at dawn in northern Holland, freeing most but two of 35 hostages held by South Moluccan gunmen.
