Plane Bomb Fatal for 11

In Rome Fiumicino airport four Palestinian guerrillas attacked a customs station set fire to an American plane and hijacked a German jetliner with 11 hostages. The hijackers forced the plane to Athens where the aircraft landed at the main airport as authorities negotiate for two Palestinians held by the Greek government. Police fear up to 15 dead and many wounded, with 11 passengers in the Pan American jet killed when incendiary bombs were used.

Death Follows Holiday Fete in Calumet County

Daniel John Geiger, 23, of Appleton died from neck fracture after a car struck a tree on Lake Park Road outside Appleton. His brother Dennis Geiger, 25, was critically injured in the same crash. Investigators said excessive speed and loss of control preceded the collision. The weekend toll, including Arthur Sallman and others, raised Wisconsin’s 1973 highway fatalities to 1,105.
