Cost Figures for Sewage Plant Work Nearly Double in 2 Years
At a Wednesday public hearing in Manitowoc officials heard from Robert Biebel of Consoer Townsend and Associates that the city’s sewage treatment plant project has risen from 7 million to 13.2 million dollars in about two years. Inflationary costs plus upgrades to administration facilities and shore protection prompted the increase. The plan will raise design capacity to 15.5 million gallons daily and improve pollutant removal from about 70-80 percent to near 90 percent with third stage treatment and sand filtration before chlorination. The seawall damage from high water and storms is being addressed as part of the program.
