Lightning Suspected In Blaze At Sauer Farm
A Saturday night lightning strike is suspected to have sparked a fire at Louis Sauer’s farm near Whitelaw. The blaze destroyed a 40 by 60 foot barn and a 20 by 30 foot grainery, plus a silo, and killed two calves a bull and about 150 tons of hay and 30 tons of straw. The Whitelaw Fire Department with Branch and Kellnersville units fought the blaze assisted by a crane from Fred Ratlandt and Sons Inc. Power to the residence failed when thunder shattered fuses, reigniting the fire about 5 a.m. and bringing the alarm to Sheriff Traffic. The property lies a half mile north of Whitelaw on County Trunk S.
