Agreement Reached On O R N Tax Equalization Question
County court settled the challenge to Oregon Railroad & Navigation property values in Morrow County. After hearing J W Morrow and Assessor Gove, the court lowered the main line assessment to 5500 per mile and the branch line to 5500, with real estate at one third value and cash notes and accounts similarly valued. Morrow argued underassessment and unassessed money and notes in the county. Gove cited the Jackson County railroad case and ICC data to justify valuation, noting earnings and replacement costs.

Development League Meets in Heppner City
The Morrow County Development League held its second meeting in the city chambers Friday evening. C. E. Woodson was elected secretary and the previous week’s organization was formalized. Discussion covered an advertising pamphlet, but lack of funds prevented firm plans. The group also tackled a Sunday train service and decided to urge the O. R. & N. to provide regular Sunday trains, with the secretary to contact railway officials. Heppner has long wanted Sunday service, and the league hopes to succeed.
