Dangers in Cattle Shipments Highlight Disease Spread
A cautious note warns that while not all cattle shipments risk disease, moving feeders can spread infection if diseased animals are included. The point of danger lies in shipments that mix feeder stock with infected cattle.
Market Is Bad Strike Hurts Oregon Cattle Industry
Market conditions in Oregon are uncertain due to strikes in Chicago affecting cattle shipments. Cattle movements to Chicago are light as buyers wait for price clarity, while the home market remains strong but not enough to absorb all stock. C.J. Millis of the O.R.&N. predicts changes soon and cites Crook County range war tensions as serious. Sheep losses from recent market shifts and the Bureau of Animal Industry dipping ruling impact the market, though modifications may improve new shipments. The Dalles land office orders restrict entry of townships in Morrow County for a Buttercreek irrigation reservoir site, with engineers awaiting surveys.

Prohibition Alliance Plans County Election Strategy
At a meeting of the Oregon State Prohibition Alliance the plan to pursue prohibition by county votes in November was ratified. If a county votes dry saloons will be eliminated. if anti-prohibition, areas with dry support remain. The plan seeks to unite dry and wet precincts while avoiding gerrymandering and unfairness, arguing county-by-county outcomes best serve the cause.
