Divided Victory In Morrow County Sheriff Races

The district saw a split ticket with Democrats winning key offices while Republicans held some posts. Sheriff race was tight with Matlock and Shouott close, district attorney Phelps won big in Morrow, and local option carried by 157. Overall state ticket expected to swing about 20,000, Williamson around 12,000 in the second district and Hernandez 16,60 to 5,000 in the first.

Shaniko wool sale yields record Eastern Oregon prices

A special to the Oregonian notes the banner wool sale at Shaniko with the season’s highest Eastern Oregon prices since 1892. About 1.25 million pounds sold, with Gone wools averaging 16 to 17 cents and top price 173 cents for the Thomas Brogan clip. Baldwin Sheep & Land Co clip of 175,000 pounds brought 174 1/2 cents. Sealed bid method shown to dispose late offerings quickly and satisfactorily. The 6,000,000 pounds tributary to Shaniko are famed for quality. Next sale on June 14 expected to offer double the day’s volume. last sealed bid sale set for July 1.
