Hundred Million Dollar Baltimore Fire Liberally Spreads
A massive blaze in Baltimore destroyed 75 blocks and 2600 buildings in the wholesale district after 10 am. High winds and dense smoke hampered firefighters as flames raged for hours, with losses estimated near 200 million dollars. The heat forced crews back and sparks flew across the area while looting and firefighting continued. Meanwhile cattle in the Cascades foothills face feed shortages as hay stocks deplete in the valley.
