A Monday night tragedy reports Louis Bark, a shoemaker for Eckhart & Hilb, ended his life by drowning in the lock chamber. Inquest found no violence, wife and friends cited illness and nervy temperament as likely factors, with a $1000 Northwestern policy noted. Funeral was private, services omitted per wife's request.
A spacious 82 by 70 foot barn with 14 horse stalls, a loft for 40 plus tons of hay, a large cistern and cupola, is under construction on Mr Smith P Hill’s Whitefield farm. Monday’s raising drew about 100 neighbors including Mace Seelye. celebrations featured a two year old cider and generous supper. Also noted are obituaries for two sisters of Samuel Parker, Mrs Stokes and Mrs Taylor, with family details and reflections on life and death. The Whitefield church contract was awarded to C D Hawkins of Snachwine for 1285, to furnish all materials and complete by November 19.
