Aug. 25 1901 report from Mrs A L ONG at Rye Center N H describes a Locke family reunion tour from Chicago to Niagara Falls and Boston. It notes kin from Maine Florida and Henry N Y, a planned memorial monument not to exceed 350, and genealogical data from historian Arthur Locke of Portland Maine detailing generations and marriages within the Locke line. A letter from Mrs EB Hurconins of Henry County recounts a pleasant stay visiting Minneapolis sights and St James farms. She recalls warm welcomes from the Janney and Moles families, a guided city route, hotels of Mr Armstrong, and local farms with groves and wheat stacks. She notes lakes near St James and plans to return to Minneapolis for a few days.
A letter to the Henry Republican revises an 1859 Caledonia pork packing claim and recalls Hall's Landing operations in 1849 50. The writer recalls McCaleb Fowler Barnard and others shipping, boarding, and rendering lard, with river trade and bone disposal practices noted and contrasts with modern methods.
The ad explains people can gain weight by taking an ounce of Scott's Emulsion daily. It claims the emulsion starts digestion, allowing absorption of ordinary food and resulting in flesh gain. The message promotes the product as a remedy for underweight and health.
