Improvement of French Bar Promises Easier Illinois River Navigation
Johnston & Co government contractors dredge French Bar near Hardin Calhoun county to improve navigation. They cut a one mile channel 104 feet wide four feet deep at low water and remove 50000 cubic yards of earth. A dyke at French Island head directs water into the new channel. Work has run for months and should finish in about three weeks benefiting Illinois River traffic.

Temperance Resolution Adopted by Ke Wan ee District M E
Report from the Ke Wan ee district M E conference held at Wyoming Stark county on November 10 expresses regret over widespread saloon traffic and liquor sales. It calls for public and private remonstrance against intoxicating liquors and so called innocent drinks, urges temperance meetings, prayer, and efforts within bounds, and recommends sacramental grape juice or substitutes and temperance sermons. It also asks Sunday school leaders to circulate temperance pledges.

City Council Signs 1500 Loan to Henry City Bridge Company
The city council met Monday November 28 and offered a resolution to loan 1500 at 10 percent for one or two years to the Henry City Bridge Company, referred to finance committee. A water cistern project for the public square was approved with bids to finish by December 19, notes show treasurer's receipts and expenditures, and several bills were ordered paid. An appointment for a ventriloquist reader was noted as a possible December event.
