A smooth con man drew names from a box to lure locals into a Texas land scam. Seven men and their wives paid $5 each for promises of free rail tickets and expenses, plus later trips, only to be abandoned with no tickets. The scheme, including a named mark J. J. Fern, has appeared in several Indiana towns after leaving Henry.
