Digging Well Tragedy Claims Life of Frank Barth
A fatal gas incident occurred while a crew led by C R Jones dug a well on the Irv Williams farm in Senachwine township. Frank Barth was overcome by airless conditions and died after attempts to rescue him by Henry and other workers. Coroner and inquest followed with testimony from Willis Taylor Medearis and Charles W. Francis. Funeral arrangements were set in Henry Cemetery with services at the local church.

Prospecting for Coal Near Locon and Lacon Mines
The Barr Coal, Lumber & Power Co led by John Thompson, E L Buchanan, Mrs Ciara B Fort and Frank Specht is boring below the Lacon cemetery, two miles from Sparland, to locate a deeper coal vein. Four to five hundred feet down in four sites, the best vein found is four feet six inches thick. If successful, a shaft will be sunk between here and the Santa Fe track eight miles south. Mrs Fort owns river frontage and amid Lake Michigan overflow. A crew under Specht advances the work. weather and local notes follow in the surrounding November issues.
