Henry Township Sunday School Convention drew strong turnout across five churches Methodist Presbyterian Christian Episcopal and New Jerusalem. A B Smith presided while lectures and papers traced Bible history from Hebrew origins to English translations and the 1611 King James Bible.
Rev E S Busby of Magnolia delivered the principal address on Competitive Work in the Sunday Schools after Psalm 121 and a prayer. Miss Alice Gilpin spoke on Teachings Essentials while Sparland ladies sang Sweet Sabbath Eve. The evening included discussions by Revs Vivian and Landenberger on Young and Old Teachers, and a nominations report naming officers. Resolutions urged exchange with Steuben association and closing saloons on Sunday. local church and business leaders were asked to observe ordinances and Sunday closures.
The Sparland group featuring Misses Bessie Hill Lelta Maxwell Mabelle Gehr and Elsie Gehr with Everett Simpson as accompanist delivered a delightful program. They sang several appropriate songs admirably and earned general commendation. President A B Smith conducted the convention with noted ability. Rev. Brooks from Putnam attended and brought four auto lodds of Putnam people. He delivered a good address and was thanked for engaging in Henry County deliberations. Reverend Busby of Magnolia also earned praise for his admirable talk. He visited Henry for the first time and toured the city cemetery and attractions with Mr G M Locke. Auditors were pleased with the visit and next year Sparland workers are urged to host the program in Henry, continuing the countywide exchange.
