Drowned Horses After Crossing Sandy Creek Ford
J. W. Newell a La con horse trainer lost a team of young colts last Friday while fording Sandy creek in Hopewell township near T. W. Stoner's. High water and swift current swept the horses off their feet entangling them in harness. Newell barely saved himself. The colts belonged to Rollin Swindler of Magnolia and Charles Martin of Hopewell. The incident highlights neglected ford access as bridges were removed years ago due to creek damage.
