The long serving La Sane post office carrier Joseph J Wittliff has been jailed on charges of raiding mail. Three decoy letters containing money on his route sparked the arrest as farmers report hog price increases this winter and Krenewed optimism for ranchers.

Death of Jason R. Chapman in Lacon at 75
Jason R. Chapman, longtime Lacon resident and prominent figure, died at age 75. Born September 6, 1830 in Warehouse Point, Connecticut, he rose from clerk to bookkeeper at Fisher & Co. and later partnerships before moving between Chicago and Lacon. A lifelong Democrat, he held roles including county treasurer and was widely known across Marshall County for his civic involvement and generosity. Survived by wife Mrs. Frank Woodruit of Ottawa and son Walter, with three children Fred, Harry, and Cora deceased.
