Lawsuit to decide rights on Thompson Lake preserves
A high profile Illinois legal battle follows a shooting at Thompson Lake in Tazewell county. The Thompson Lake Rod and Gun club, led by Harry New of Indianapolis, has arrested trespassers and now faces a major suit that pits sportsman property claims against public fishing and hunting rights. The case mixes club powers, state provisions, and pending legislation that could open preserves to the public. Ex-Governor Durbin and other anglers join the club, signaling a money against money clash with broad stakes for hunters and fishermen statewide.

Walter I. Runnells writes from Colorado noting mild winters, long summers, and strong dry farming yields. He reports wheat 30-60 bushels per acre, oats 50-90, beets 12-22 tons per acre, and alfalfa cuts three times yearly with beets at $5 per ton and alfalfa at $7. Land values rise from $2 to $150-250 per acre with improvements, and he plans 100 acres of wheat plus ditch prospects. Flora excels in Denver and he praises Colorado as land of sunshine.
