Short History of Henry M. E. Church Building
The M. E. church began in the 1840s with worship in a schoolhouse. In 1852 a church on School Street was built under Pastor Rev. S. B. Baker who led the work. After years it moved to the Wirt and Third streets corner where a 12 foot addition and improvements were added. The growing congregation later faced a fire that affected the building.
