History of the Henry M E Church Building
The M E Church in Henry traces its origins to the 1840s with worship in a schoolhouse and a 1852 church on School Street led by Rev. S B Baker. It moved to Wirt and Third, added a 12 foot extension, then transferred to Duke Bros premises after a fire, later rising on Edward Street. The 1888 church at Wirt and Third, under Rev J H Scott, features a large basement for social events, a full kitchen, and heating. Current value is about 35000 with $8700 invested in land for a new parsonage.
