Endurance race on Illinois River draws 88 boats
The Fifth Annual Endurance Race of the Illinois Valley Yacht Club ran 34 miles from Peoria to Henry on a calm upriver as 88 boats started and 27 finished. Pronto and Elizabeth M led time, with Kanawa winning the handicap prize owned by Peoria County State's Attorney Robert Scholes. About 2,000 spectators watched from Henry and surrounding hills as prizes and finishes were announced and the fleet enjoyed a festive postrace scene.
