At about 9 pm Tuesday a fire alarm rang for L A Meier’s Carroll street residence. Prompt neighbor action and quick fire crew return prevented disaster as a burning lamp in a brass lamp ignited a lounge and carpet. Damage estimated at seventy five dollars. house and furniture insured.
Nancy H Adams born January 17 1833 in Park County Indiana moved with siblings to Peoria county then Iowa 1851 marriage in Iowa 1842 moved to California 1855 back to Peoria and Marshall counties resident since 1875 joined Congregational church 1904 aligned with Presbyterian Eastern Star and Rebecca member survived by daughter Rebecca two sons Dewitt and Henry and numerous grandchildren

The Marshall County interscholastic contest begins this afternoon and runs through tomorrow at Pavilion Park. Judges for the literary contest include Prof. Humphrey Knox College and Prof. Leslie Township High School Ottawa, with presidents Burgess Bradley Institute Peoria and Peebles of University of Illinois listed among officials. Team baseball games are scheduled for this afternoon as Lacon Wenona and Henry vie in 5 inning contests. winners then compete Friday afternoon. Admission to Pavilion Park grounds is 25 cents, and a large crowd is anticipated with fair weather.
Mrs. R D Kline hosted an announcement party in Streator on June 6. Miss Ethel Kline will marry Leslie M Mason of Chillicothe, a Santa Fe transportation clerk and former Streator resident. The couple, with family ties to Streator and Henry county origins, plan a June 28 wedding at the bride’s home.
In a letter to the editors Mrs. Minnie Kline corrects a prior report about Max Kline. He did not elope or marry, left Peoria to seek work in St Louis as a lumber company inspector, then received an offer in Hammond Indiana and accepted. He seeks to switch to office work in lumber and become fully a lumberman.
The Rock Island runs a $2.50 excursion to Chicago on June 24 leaving Henry at 8 50 a m and returning from Chicago June 25 at 6 30 p m Tickets good only for the excursion train and return on trains except No 11 to No 637 leaving Chicago 11 30 p m Sunday night For details call an agent Henry Til Subscribe for The Republican.
Henry city council meets June 12 1905 approving Ordinance 231 constructing cement sidewalks on Third Richard and Western avenues with cross walks, and Ordinance 232 setting annual and short term license fees for box ball alleys. A petition to relocate a saloon license is rejected. Other items include Ordinance 288 lowering saloon closing hour to 10 pm and adjournment after a tied vote. Mayor Hutchins and City Clerk Wright preside.
Saturday evening May 27 Saul Nighsonger married Grace M Newman in Pomeroy Washington pastor D C Sanderson in the M E B church parsonage. The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Woodruff home. The bride, educated in Henry schools and Dixon College, and the groom, a Pacific Telephone employee, were described as well matched and ready to start their home. Newman traveled from Henry to Carroll Iowa, then to Pomeroy arriving May 27 at 2 30 pm.
The State Register links the death by own action of Bothwell Pulford in Savanna NL to the murder of former Representative Berry. The editor warns that domestic wrongs drive such tragedies, noting increasing similar cases and reflecting on the wages of sin as death.
