State Should Hold Power to Finance Deep Waterway
Joliet leaders promote a plan by E G Purkhiser to issue bonds paid by canal revenues. A 24 foot deep waterway from Lockport to the Mississippi would yield about $1,000,000 annually from water power and require about $5.5 million to extend. They urge state control of the power and the project to avoid tax costs, arguing the project benefits all Illinois and the middle west.

Children Celebrate Day at Presbyterian Church
Sunday morning services at the Presbyterian church honored the June festival for children with a themed program “The Voyage of Life.” Youngsters in sailor costumes performed recitations and songs as Rev. Burger gave an engaging talk about life’s journey and keeping to a straight course toward heaven. A college collection followed as volunteers conducted the event amid elaborate decorations and a ship motif.
