Bold Bandit Loots Rock Island Depot and Dunlap Home

A brigand robbed the Rock Island depot and the United States Express office at Dunlap, taking about $2.50 from the depot and around $50 in cash plus two gold watches from the Dunlap residence. Sheriff Minor led a large posse of over a hundred armed farmers, aided by bloodhounds, but the thief fled toward Peoria after leaving Dunlap. The suspect, tall and 27, with a sandy mustache, was last seen boarding a street car in Peoria. A savage showdown occurred at Dunlap as the bandit forced Dunlap at gunpoint and marched him toward the tracks before escaping.
