James P. Wilson of the state highway commission in Springfield outlines two year hard road spending totaling 2 1 million dollars with 1 1 million for the first year and 1 0 million for the second. An appropriation of 1 0 million begins April 1, 1919 and after at least 5 0 million will be available by the General Assembly. Revenue comes from automobile owners and must be used only for hard road purposes.
The contract was let last week for the razing of the old Jones building at the corner of Howard and Second streets. Arling will begin Monday to tear down the structure known to all as Biructuss.
For 134 years the city has funded a Ladies Tea Room. the current council asked the Woman’s Club to take over funding. A soliciting committee led by Mrs H W Adams gathered cash pledges totaling 150 for 11 months while the council covers light and water. A supporters list includes Whitefield Ladies Aid, Henry M. By Church Adies Aid, Putnam Ladies Aid, Henry National Bank, First National Bank, Drs. Bayne Cromwell Hartley and many others across the community.
