Mrs. Mary Warren aged 88, longtime Henry County resident, cared for the sick in many homes including Mrs. J. H. Jones and Mrs. Robert Davis. She moved to St. Joseph with her caregiver daughter Jennie Deyoe after four weeks of care, remembered for charity and faithful work at Presbyterian church and Woman's Relief.

Valentine Party Celebrates St. Valentine Birthday

Mrs R Bayne hosted a February gathering for about two dozen female guests to mark St. Valentine’s birthday and a guest’s wedding anniversary. The event featured heart decorations, needlework, a guessing contest with names, a three course lunch, heart shaped salmon croquettes, prizes a valentine and consolation prize, and farewell thanks to the host.

The Temple Quartet gave a Saturday evening program at the opera house with blended voices and encores pleasing a mixed audience. Miss Catherine Cole impressed as reader, while A. C. Steele faltered on The Song the Anvil Sings. The company travels from Lansing to Ohio then south with many engagements ahead.

St Mary's Plans A New $30000 Church This Year

St Mary s congregation selects a building committee and plans to construct a new edifice on South street opposite the old church. The $30000 structure will include vestibule auditorium chancel and choir gallery with first class decorations. George A Studenhaur of Rock Island is the architect and Polson Powers of Morris are the contracted builders with a roof by Oct 1. The church aims to dedicate the new temple early next year with a potential town clock in the steeple.

Birthday Surprise for Mrs. English on Third Street

About 20 guests surprised Mrs. Phebe English at her Third Street home on Feb 14. The party included an oyster supper at 10:30 PM and passing of celery and toothpick figurines. Mrs. English received letters from relatives and a 28 album souvenir. Miss Hanna supervised the event. neighbors spoke at the home of the Hillis family on Opera House plans.
