Christmas at St John’s Episcopal Church Celebrated

The St John’s Church congregation enjoyed a glorious Christmas with large crowds at the midnight service. Miss Law provided fine music and Augusta Stever delivered a superb solo as the church glowed with candlelight in a festive Anglican communion celebration.

Churches held festive Sunday school programs with decorated trees and gifts as M E F and Presbyterian congregations led the celebrations. Santa appeared in several roles, gifts were distributed, and a Christmas wedding united Warl Wherry and Miss Leota Hunt in a warmly described home ceremony with a large dinner and generous gifts.

Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star Hold Joint Christmas Installations

A Friday evening joint installation at the Masonic lodge room united the Masons and Eastern Star with Elmer Quinn directing the Hastern Star ceremony and L R Phillips providing floor work. Henry Lodge officers were also seated, followed by a generous oyster supper and a festive Christmas gathering at Mother Leech’s home featuring photos, gifts, a playful prank, and music, with plans to return next Christmas.

Presbyterian Annual Meeting Held in Church

The Presbyterian annual congregational meeting convened December 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the church. BL Burt elected chairman with Margaret Riddell clerk, J A Williams read scripture, C E B Burt led prayers. Reports from session, Sunday school, home department, Christian Mandeaver, and Aid society praised faithful attendance and reported treasury balance. A B Smith treasurer noted all bills paid and remaining funds. C E Burt and H Hunter elected elders for four years. Dr Bayne, W B Smith, Albert Stevens elected trustees for three years. Mrs Hila Wood elected, ushers named, and motion to supply pulpit and adjourn recorded.
