Illinois 15 Asked for More Wheat
The 1919 national plan calls for a minimum winter wheat acreage of 45 million acres, with a possible 47.5 million. Illinois must boost acreage by 13 to 25 percent from 1915 figures to meet the quota, with the state college of agriculture assigning county targets and urging farmers to plant wheat on a fifth to a third of cereal land. Marshall and Putnam counties receive specific ranges, and September is recommended for sowing.
