Oliver Wilson of Peoria rebutted Dr Harvey Wiley at the Illinois Federation for Country Life Progress convention in DeKalb. Wilson argued farm wives cook better meals than city hotels, saying he found few poor cooks among farmers and challenged Wiley’s sweeping claim of inferior domestic cookery. The applause showed Wilson’s point landed and cast doubt on Wiley’s broader statements.
Mrs. Scott Austin of Bradford suffered a broken leg below the knee and painful bruises after the buggy she was entering with lines tangled caused a topple. She jumped to safety moments before the vehicle upset and the horse escaped, with her age making recovery slow. Her daughter is Mrs. Charles Foster and another bystander was Mrs. W. H. Fate.

A jealous husband confronted a ticket seller at a nearby town cinema claiming his wife was inside with another man. He planned to wait as the film ended. The manager warned the crowd of the man outside, and a swift exit occurred with about 15 couples slipping out the rear door.
Bartonville, the famed southern Peoria semi professional team, traveled to Pavilion Park to face the Henry Greys. Claude pitched well but lacked support as Henry scored four runs on hits and errors. Bassett stole the show with a leaping catch in the ninth, and Wagoner pitched for Bartonville with some control issues. A private letter from Grant Wright describes Henry as picturesque, praising its beauty and residents. Judge Worthington may retire at the end of his term in 1915 after a long career on Peoria County’s bench.
Work on the Potter building post office moves progress with the apartment ready for occupancy in about two to three weeks. The first room will be finished and new equipment installed before an inspection is opened to the public. Removal is scheduled between Saturday night and Monday morning after fixtures are arranged.
Mrs Mary Hallstead aged 99 passed away at home on Clear Creek Putnam County Illinois after a fall fractured hip. Survived by three sons Thomas John Nelson and three daughters. Peter Hohner of Whitefield township reports a very satisfactory settlement after his barn and contents were destroyed by a lightning caused fire. He explains insurance was carried with the American Insurance Company with Oscar Davis as agent and thanks all neighbors and friends for assistance during and after the blaze.

Rev. Truitt of Burmah India delivered a Sunday evening lecture on Burmese manners customs and religion at the M BE church. He described Burmah’s geography population and religions, urged support for a boys high school, and stressed temperance and missionary sacrifice.

Mr and Mrs James P Hartley entertain as guests Miss Imelda Moran of Chicago. Miss Evelyn Hartley and Miss Moran host Joseph Garrity and Raymond Fitzpatrick of Chicago at the Swan Lake Club house. The party visited Mr and Mrs A J Lindgren near Rutland on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
