Arbor Day Exercises Mark 1892 School Celebration

Arbor day observed with literary exercises in the public school. A large crowd attended including Kev Woolley and Board of Education members. Due to cold wind the program moved to the high school room then campus, where trees were planted for each grade and named after literary figures. The event praised by Prof Cross and Rev Woolley, with students delivering poems recitations and a class song.

Ira and Ora Ong Mourn Loss of Beloved Daughter Ora

Prof and Mrs Ira M Ong mourn the death of their delicate daughter Ora after a long illness. A brief service was held in Wenona with the family traveling to Lacon for burial. The Republican sympathizes with the bereaved family.

Veteran John Green Dies in Joliet at Age 92

John Green born 1808 in Bethany New York died in Joliet on Saturday April 2 after a long life of faith and service. He left his widow Catharine Read and two daughters Mrs Jonas Woodward and Mrs M. E. Dunbar and a half brother Lorenzo Richardson. A pensioner and veteran he served in Co D 100th Illinois Vols during the Civil War and visited California in 1849 before settling in Joliet.
