Illinois farmers urged to compare state taxes with Michigan
Urbana April 6 Special Illinois tax burdens are highlighted by Dean Eugene Davenport of the University of Illinois. He notes Michigan land taxes average 34 cents per acre, while Illinois farms rarely exceed 20 cents, with some as low as 14 to 18 cents inside corporate limits. He cites Macon County at 90 cents per acre and Michigan’s total land tax at $1.75 per acre, urging Illinois residents to consider neighboring states’ higher university and agriculture funding.
