Steamer Watkins rebuilt for lower Illinois River service
The steamer Watkins long operated on the Illinois River for excursion business is rebuilt at Wallace yard in Genoa and planned to run Ottawa to Peoria with Eagle Packet Company. The boat, 129 by 28 feet, will offer cheaper freight and passenger travel to St Louis, with inspections due in Peoria for 1907. A legal dispute looms over Burlington Bridge obstructing navigation, with potential federal suit if bridge remains blocked.
