Doyle Tops Chicago Cattle Market with 1000-Pound Steers
Roland L. Doyle of Henry topped the Chicago market for 1000 pound cattle on September 14, selling 41 head of choice Hereford steers. He previously bought 112 head from the Kansas City Producers Commission in October last year, bred on bluegrass pasture then moved to feed. Doyle notes he has shipped over 80 carloads to the Producers Commission in the past decade.

LaVern West Dies in Train Collision Near Edelstein
LaVern West 27 died after his car struck a passing freight train on the Northwestern line near Edelstein. He worked as a welder for Stanolind at LaRose and leaves a widow Gertrude and two daughters Patty Lou and Beverly, plus his parents, two sisters, and a brother. Funeral held at LaRose with Rev. Four-H Achievement Festival Planned for October 29
The Marshall Putnam 4-H committees plan an evening Achievement Day and Corn Show on October 29 in Henry. Conrad Merdian Dies at His Henry Home
Conrad Merdian lifelong Marshall county resident dies at his Henry home Sunday afternoon September 25 after sudden illness following church services. Angina pectoris listed as cause. Funeral at St Marys Catholic Church with six grandsons as casket bearers and Calvary cemetery interment. He married Ottilia Roth and is survived by eight other children, three brothers, twenty one grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was a retired farmer and lifelong church member.
