SMH Firm Again Lowest Bidder on Route 29 Project
SMH Construction of Peoria again submitted the lowest bid for paving a 4.56 mile section of Route 29 between Sparland and Chillicothe with 706 140.73 dollars. Clark Bros. of Peoria was the only other bidder, higher than SMH. If accepted the total project cost would reach 852 125.29 dollars. State highway action is anticipated soon amid local demand for modernization.

George L. Merdian Dies at Peoria Buried Here Tuesday
George L. Merdian 80 of Peoria died recently in Peoria. Funeral services were held at Wilton Mortuary Peoria with burial at Henry City cemetery beside his first wife Martha Bell. He was construction superintendent for Val Jobst & Sons in Peoria for 40 years and lived in Henry before moving to Peoria. Survived by wife Theata Selbert two sisters four grandchildren six great grandchildren three stepsons and one stepdaughter. Preceded in death by his son Jesse Merdian and several siblings.

A brush fire behind the Folk Brothers feed mill in Henry’s Main and Front streets drew a large crowd and caused traffic concerns. The blaze in the West wing threatened a storage area for dried buttermilk concentrate at Prairie Farms, but firefighters acted quickly to prevent a bigger disaster.

Last Rites Thursday For George Schaffer
Funeral services for George Pres. John Schaffer 85 of Princeton will be held at Green funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Charles Bennett officiating. Schaffer died Monday night at Perry Memorial hospital after entering the hospital three days earlier. He came from Springfield about six years ago and is survived by his wife Molle McBride. A complete obituary will be published next week.
