The Marshall County Board of Supervisors approved a $70,120 appropriation for the coming year, only $250 more than last year. May revive WPA sewing project in Henry township
Henry Township supervisor Roy W. Miller says the government sewing room in Henry City Hall may reopen soon. A Toluca sewing room will reopen under Supervisor Ray Litchfield. Henry will sponsor the project, pay rent and utilities, furnish materials, while payroll remains funded by the federal government.

Marshall County Removes Ground Hog Bounty
Marshall County supervisors revoked the ground hog bounty for three months after finding cost of 3000 dollars annually. A survey showed Marshall was the only county in the area paying such a bounty. neighboring counties paid none or discontinued programs due to expense. The increase last spring had cost 754 dollars in three months in Whitefield Township.

Hopewell Farmer Announces Second Watermelon Burst
George Fandel Marshall County watermelon king will hold his second watermelon burst of the season on Sunday Sept 19 from 2 to 4 pm at his big farm in Hopewell Township southeast of Henry. The public is invited and all will be offered free melon. Last Sunday 250 people attended and 3000 pounds of watermelons were served with seeds saved for planting and sale. Next Sunday three prizes will be awarded for boxing match carrying two 75 pound watermelons and guessing seeds in a watermelon.

The highest steer price in seventeen years reached $19.10 on the Chicago market with prime medium weights. Heifers climbed to $17, the best since 1928, aided by a 25 cent rise across the cattle list.

Henry Youths Injured In Auto Crash Near Sparland
Bud Woodfill, son of Mr and Mrs C A Woodfill, injured when a Meihsner car collided with a Chevrolet driven by an El Paso man near the William S Riddell farm Route 90 west of Sparland. Woodfill was hospitalized in Peoria with head gash and sprained ankle. Meihner also hurt but returned home. Driver of the El Paso car uninjured. both cars wrecked. insurance coverage noted.
